Job Description
Director and Assistant Director
The staff of the Grand Junction Public Library shall consist of the Director and the Assistant. The director shall be hired by the Board of Trustees and approved by Mayor. The director shall have a sincere interest in the Library and its patrons. The same shall be required of the assistant. The assistant are hired by the director with the approval of the Library Board of Trustees.
The Director and Assistant shall be required to use the following equipment:
1. Copy machine
2. Automation System
3. Computer/Internet
4. TV/DVD
5. Wii gaming system
6. Nintendo Switch
7. Picture Printer
8. 3D Printer
The duties of the Director are as follows:
1. Work under the direction of the Board of Trustees
2. Orientates and trains new staff
3. Evaluates assistant yearly
4. Selects books and library materials
5. Catalogs, classifies and processes library materials
6. Keeps record of financial data
7. Keeps record of library operations
8. Works with the Board on preparation of budget and goals
9. Prepares annual report for Board, City, County, Region and State
10. Makes recommendations to the Board on policies
11. Works with the Board on meeting agenda
12. Guides the weeding collection
13. Oversees upkeep of the Grand Junction Public Library Website
14. Works with library staff on programming ideas
15. Manages community use of the library community room
16. Attend appropriate continuing education
Duties of the Assistant are as follows:
1. Assist the director
2. Assumes directors duties in case of emergency
3. Keep daily circulation records
4. Balance book sales
5. Pursue the return of over-due materials
6. Automation System
7. Shelves returned materials
8. See to the weekly general cleaning
9. Attend appropriate continuing education opportunities
Director must obtain state certification within two years of hire. The Director and Assistant should be knowledgeable of the resources of a library, be interested in continuing their education concerning the operation of the library and comply with all published health and safety regulations.
The Director and Assistant should have a High School Diploma or equivalent. All must maintain a good work attitude, be able to maintain a good working relationship with the general public and fellow City employees.
Wages are set by the Board’s recommendation: IPERS are withheld for the employees.
